Welcome to the Bulls News Guide to Edgar Street, the home of Hereford United. In this short guide are many of the details needed to enhance any visit to this famous ground.(This guide is being updated and is not complete)
The Stadium:
It's not the most modern stadium, but what it lacks in facilities it makes up in atmosphere. Once there was an athletic track on the site. Its legacy can still be seen on the Meadow End which is the home end of the ground and still all terrace as well. Recently health and safety rules has stopped fans watching from the area directly behind the goal so the capacity of this stand has dropped.
The Merton Meadow main stand, built in 1968, is unique as within it is the Radfords Bar and club offices with their windows facing onto the pitch. Included in this stand is a family area and a junior Bulls area. The dug-outs are this side of the pitch as is the press box. All the changing rooms, boardroom and managers office are situated under the stand. Also the Vice-Presidents Bar.
Built in 1974, the Len Weston Stand, pictured several seasons ago, now renamed the Cargill Stand is a narrow structure running alongside the main A49 route. It has a seated upper storey and terracing below. This stand is usually split with home fans at the Meadow End and Away fans utilising the other half. It was given its original name after Len Weston who joined the club board in 1946 and remained involved, finally as president, until his death in 1971.
Finally the Blackfriars End (pictured). Again an all terrace aging structure which has seen its better days. This is also usually split with home fans having the side next to the main stand although when a very large away following is expected the whole area is given to them. One modern feature is an electronic scoreboard the cost of which was donated by a supporter. A down point is that there are no bar facilities at the away end.Update July 2009: The Blackfriars terrace has been closed due to safety concerns. Hereford United has announced that the stand will be re-developed as soon as planning permission is obtained.
Update October 2010: Temporary seating has been erected in the Blackfriars End to accomodate away supporters.The Pitch:
Said to be one of the widest in League Football it gently slopes towards the Meadow End. Recently reseeded it is ideal for teams who like to get the ball down and pass it about. New floodlights were installed in 2005.
Update August 2013: New pitch drainage installed.
Radfords, it used to be known as Legends, is a recently refurbished francished bar which is under the main stand. Usually open for away fans if there is any room. Worth a visit.Tickets for League Games:

Directions:
One of the easiest grounds to find anywhere.
From the North approach on the A49 and the stadium is on the left. Just past the stadium turn left and parking is on the next left.
From the South: Follow the A49 over the Wye Bridge until the stadium appears on the right. Turn right immediately before the stadium and then left into car park.
From the East: Follow the A4103 (from Worcester) take the second exit at a roundabout on the approach to Hereford. Continue on the A4103 over a small bridge with traffic lights, past several garages on left until the next roundabout. Take the first exit onto the A49. Continue on the road over a mini-roundabout and take the third exit at the next roundabout onto Edgar Street. The stadium is 200 yards on the left. Immediately past the stradium turn left and left again into the main car park.
From the West: Follow the A438 to Steels roundabout (Steels garage is on the left). Keep left past the rounsabout and then take the right lane turning into Blackfriars Street just before the Stadium. Then turn left for the car park.
Car Parking:
A large pay and display car park is situated right next to the ground. Charges are no more than £1 and free for evening and Sunday games. Be wary if it is very wet as the lower end of the park can flood. If full there is a multi-storey 200 yards away.
Rail Travel:
Hereford station is about ten minutes from Edgar Street. On route there are numerous places to eat and drink.
On leaving the station turn right into Commercial Road, continue for about 400 metres and turn right into Newmarket Street. After another 100 metres turn right into Widemarsh Street and take the next left into Blackfriars Street. The football ground is on the right.
